Naming Baby B – Owen Edward

Naming these babies has been a challenge! We are still on the fence on what to name baby girl. However, I’m happy to share that we have officially named baby B, our youngest son, Owen Edward. The original story of how we decided on this name is pretty straightforward. Amongst all of the vetoes that we used on our name lists (and there were A LOT), Greg and I both love the name Owen. For his middle name, we chose Edward in honor of Greg’s dad who passed away last year to cancer. His name was Carey Edward.

After being put on bed rest and having a bit more time to peruse the internet I decided to check on the meanings of the names Owen and Edward. What I found gave me chills and made me even more confident in our name selection for our twin boy. According to Nameberry, one of the meanings of the name Owen is “young warrior.” Seems appropriate since the babies and I are fighting to avoid preterm labor in order to give them the best chance at a good start in life. The same naming website says that Edward means “wealthy guardian” which is also eerily appropriate since we gave Owen his grandfather’s middle name. I love the idea that Carey is watching over Owen and his sister like a guardian angel.

Did you name your sons and daughters for the meaning behind the name or a family namesake? Or did you just like the name? I would love to hear your stories 🙂 Maybe reading some of them will help us name our baby girl!

  1. HI LINDSAY, I LOVE THE MEANING OF OWEN EDWARD I HAD CHILLS! ARE WE LOOKING FOR BABY GIRL TO HAVE THE SAME FIRST INITIAL? I HAVE A OLD ONE ORA LINDSAY BENSON , WHAT DO YOU THINK?

    • I know I couldn’t believe it when I saw the meanings! I’ve never heard the name Ora before, very unique! Doesn’t have to be same initial… Just want them to sound nice together 🙂

  2. Love the boy name! Names are very hard you want them to have some kinda of meaning behind them, plus it’s something they keep there whole life so choose wisely! Lol
I always loved Olivia for a girl….what about Olivia Grace? Good luck! 🙂

    • I love, love, love the name, Olivia! I know a few of them in our circle of friends though. Our short list of girls names right now are: Claire, Maya, and Lily. Love all of their meanings. It might end up being a game time decision – maybe I just have to see this little princess first!
